Sustainable Development - ReserVert
Aware of the environmental impact of many everyday activities within its facility, Hôtel des Coutellier decided to become actively involved in sustainable development. Since the creation of the RéserVert program in 2008 by the Association des Hôteliers du Québec, Hôtel des Coutellier put every effort into being among the first to achieve certification.
Here are some measures from the program that we have implemented:
A recycling bin is present in each of our room to collect glass, paper and plastic.
We use recycled paper to print our documents. We also reuse paper for our different intern reports and memos by printing on the reverse side of sheets already printed on one side.
Our housekeeping staff collects used soaps that are later sent to Evolution, a company offering a wide range of high-quality products made from recycled soaps collected from major hotel facilities in Quebec.
We provide our guests with bathroom tissue and facial tissue made from 100% post-consumer recycled material.
A large part of the laundry is done on site. We use phosphate-free detergent biodegradable in 28 days meeting the standards of OECD’s 301D test norms.
We use non-fuming biotechnological and biodegradable cleaning products from Innu-Science. All of Innu-Science Canada products are developed within strict guidelines set by ENVIRO-PERFORMANCE™ - Sustainable Development and by the CANADIAN ENVIRONMENTAL CHOICE™ program ECO LOGO certification program.
Environmental awareness signs are present in all rooms to avoid unnecessary replacement of linen and towels, thus reducing the amount of laundry and preventing accelerated wear and tear as well as reducing water consumption and detergent.
Stained or worn towels, hand towels and washcloths that no longer meet our standards of excellence are recycled as cleaning rags for housekeeping. Stained or ripped linen are reused for construction or painting.
We replaced all traditional light bulbs with LED lights or compact fluorescent bulbs where technology permits. Inside, many dimmers were installed to provide soft lighting.
All exterior lighting is controlled by a timer.
Compact fluorescent bulbs and batteries are collected and sent to an Eco-centre for safe recycling and disposal.
Our croissants and viennoiseries are prepared by a local baker, thus encouraging local business.
Most of our electronic devices and appliances are certified Energy Star®
Finally, all furniture, decoration items and bedding in good condition that are no longer needed are donated to local charities to be given a second life.
